MAINE EQUINE PROGRAMS



The University of Maine is located in Orono, Maine, and offers a B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Science and students may track an Equine Concentration. The University also offers a Minor in Equine Studies and a Certificate in Equine Studies.

Course work includes Equine Management, Centered Riding Principles of Equitation, Priociples of Western Riding, Equine Reproduction and Breeding, Equine Health, and Training the Standardbred Horse.

The University of Maine is a land grant college and is base for the USDA Extension and 4-H Program. See the University of Maine Equine Extension Page. The University also maintains a herd of over 30 Standardbred Horses maintained at the University's Witter Farm. The Standardbred horses also perform with the Standardbred Drill Team. The school hosts a competitve Equestrian Team and Dressage Team.


Bates College is located in Lewiston, Maine. The College does not offer an equine degree, but does have an Equestrian Team that competes on an intercollegiately.


Colby College is located in Waterville, Maine. It does not offer anj equine degree program, but does have an Equestrian Team that competes (Hunt Seat) on an Intercollegiate level.
